Stress-related Hair Loss

Not only do you have hair loss which is bad enough, but you also suffer from stress as well. That's a double whammy.

However, there are solutions out there for reducing stress so the first thing is not to panic when you suspect that your stress is causing all your hair to fall out. Panic does not do anything constructive. The other thing to consider is that there are causes other than stress making your hair fall out. I cannot address the other causes but I can offer some helpful advice on how to reduce any excessive stress you may be feeling.

Address the stress

There is no guarantee that if you reduce your feelings of stress and anxiety you will stop your hair falling out, but it will definitely be of benefit to your longer-term health. Your hair loss may be due to other factors and you need to be aware of these in case they can be very simply remedied. For example, if you need more vitamins and minerals in your diet, then this is an easy solution and it may also be having an effect on the amount of stress you are experiencing.

Talk to your doctor

Taking extra suplements to make up for deficiencies in diet is not a good long-term strategy and you should really look towards obtaining these from your varied diet. Any man-made substance is probably not as good as a natural alternative. Some medicines also cause hair loss or hair to become brittle and break easily, it is worth talking to your doctor if you are taking any medications.

Research is the key

If you are suffering from any illness or condition, as well as talking to your doctor, you really need to read up on all aspects of your condition. Find out as much as you can. Start by reading generally around the subject and then if you feel motivated to do so, go deeper into the topic.

Take full responsibility

So often we leave our health in the hands of our physician when he or she is already stretched for time due to the number of patients on his books. The only way to be rid of any condition is to take responsibility and resolve to overcome it and become well again. As far as hair loss is concerned, it seems that there may be no solution yet to some types of hair loss although there are many claims by different companies that their products will help the condition. A certain amount of cases have hereditory components to them and so if your parents or grandparents suffered hair loss it may be likely that you will also.

Many free resources

After you have done some investigation and determined that stress is a major factor in your hair loss, the good news is that there are many free resources out on the internet that will allow you to go a long way towards a complete cure of your excess stress. Resources such as ebooks, courses, articles on stress, or newsletters that get delivered to your email inbox every week. Many of these have useful hints, tips and real useful information that you can use to make a start to get your stress levels down to a reasonable level again.

What is stress?

Stress is an inability to cope with things going on in your life and this inability to cope is generally caused by an inability to change or adapt to different or changing conditions. If this is what is causing your hair loss, then if you reduce the stress, you should be able to stop your falling hair.

Make a list

Probably the first thing you should do is to sit down and make a list of all the things that you feel are causing you stress.

Rank the items

Mark them according to how bad you feel they are. Giving each one a score out of 10 as to how seriously stressed you get whilst in that environment. Mark a 1 for very low stress and mark a 10 for excessively high stress. Next put these in order so that the ones that are in most need of addressing are at the top of your list.

Identify the main culprit

Many people feel better when they have identified the cause of their stress and it helps to be able to realise which ones are the most serious in your opinion. These ones are the ones to do something about. Tackle the most serious first, leaving the others to wait their turn.

Are you a victim?

Stress is a state of mind. I am not saying that you are imagining it all, but I am saying that it is caused by the way you think about the situation. You probably feel that you cannot change something, that it is out of your control, or that you are a victim of the circumstance.

Change your thinking

However, if you could only change the way you think about the thing causing you stress, you would be able to see it from a different perspective. This would make the stress less and would allow you to feel better about the whole situation.

Making it better

Remember I said that stress is caused by an inability to change or adapt? Well, by changing the way you think about something, you have immediately made the stressful situation a little better and less stressful.
